Short Breaks in Somerset - Exploring the Area

The perfect county to take a short break Somerset is packed full of great things to do and places to stay. Chilcott’s Barn is a luxury holiday cottage just outside of the Market Town of Taunton. Quiet countryside surrounds the holiday property and you could be mistaken for thinking you are just about the only people on Earth when you stay.

Reconnect with being close to green fields and rolling hills. The Blackdown Hills can be seen rising from the terrace while you enjoy a leisurely lunch or evening meal around the high quality outdoor furniture or just a short drive away starts the majestic and rugged Quantocks with far reaching views and a romantic feel. A lovely place to while away a few hours one afternoon.

Chillcott’s Barn is a great base if you are looking to take a romantic break or a short family holiday. Sleeping up to 6 people this spacious converted barn is pure luxury. Guests find that they have everything they need for a short break at the property including picnic crockery, games for rainy days, modern appliances and even washing and drying facilities. This makes packing for the break a doddle!

Everything apart from your food and drink is supplied so you can just jump in the car and get off for a wonderful weekend or mid week break in the South West.

Here are just a few of our recommendations for places to visit when you come to stay with us at Chilcott’s Barn:

Beaches:

Why not explore the North Somerset coastline known for statuesque cliffs along the stretch of Exmoor and small fishing villages such as Porlock or the famous Lynton and Lynmouth interconnected by a Victorian Funicular Railway. Still open to the public small children and grown ups alike will enjoy the feeling of being suspended in the air while travelling up and down the cliff face!

If it is a bucket and spade holiday you are looking for then it can be hard to beat the wide open beaches of Weston Super Mare or for pretty piers Clevedon really hits the nail on the head. All within an hours drive of Chilcott’s Barn they are well worth the visit for some feel good family time.

When visiting Chilcott’s Barn on a romantic break then follow your nose across the Blackdown Hills to the Jurassic Coast, although not in Somerset you will see plenty of the county on the way. Offering spectacular seaside villages and towns the Jurassic Coast attracts visitors all year round. Suggestions for long walks would be West Bay (where Broadchurch was filmed) or for leisurely strolls followed by a spot to eat you could take a turn about Lyme Regis and its famed Cobb or even Sidmouth with its Olde Worlde charm.

Cities:

For those City Slickers of you no trip to Somerset would be complete without a short stop in Bath or Bristol. Both just over an hour door to door. Not just ideal for shoppers; the architecture and culture, the museums are particularly fabulous, in both of these make for a great day out.

And for those stay at home types:

We will totally forgive you if you decide that the furthest you will travel is from the fridge to the hot tub. One of the main reasons for coming to stay at our luxury holiday cottage is the jewel of the crown - the cottage itself.

Make the most of the hot tub, wine and dine on the terrace, sleep till noon if you are so inclined or chat away till the early hours.

That is what you have come for a break, a short break in Somerset at the perfect place - Chilcott’s Barn.
